Bollywood’s resident powerhouse Ranveer Singh is gearing up to take on the undead, and it looks like his passport is about to get stamped.
Following the massive box-office success of his espionage thriller Dhurandhar, speculation has been rampant about when his highly anticipated next venture, Pralay, will finally roll cameras. While early whispers suggested an August start date, fresh industry updates reveal a slight shift in the timeline—and a massive change in scenery.
A Dystopian Mumbai Reimagined Down Under
Directed by Jai Mehta, Pralay is being mounted as a large-scale, post-apocalyptic zombie survival thriller. While the story itself is set in a grim, lockdown-ravaged version of a dystopian Mumbai, the actual production is heading international.
According to insiders, a major portion of the film's shoot is scheduled to take place in Australia, where the cameras are officially set to go on floors in September 2026.
Pre-production is already moving at an aggressive pace in Australia. Director Jai Mehta and his crew are reportedly collaborating with top-tier international technicians to build a massive, VFX-heavy cinematic universe. Word is the team aims to digitally re-imagine Mumbai in a gritty, Hunger Games-style setup, making full use of cutting-edge global visual effects.
Intense Prep for a Career-Defining Role
A project of this scale demands a lot more than just showing up on set. Sources close to the production have revealed that Ranveer has already dived headfirst into extensive physical and emotional training.
"Ranveer will start shooting for the Jai Mehta directorial in the second half of 2026," a source revealed. "The shoot is planned in Australia, and he has already kick-started prep. This is a film that requires intense physical and emotional preparation, given the scale and genre."
Far from just being the leading man, Ranveer is also heavily involved in the creative development. The actor is reportedly collaborating day-to-day with the writing team as they fine-tune the screenplay and expand the lore of their zombie outbreak. The stakes are undeniably high: co-produced under Ranveer’s own banner, Maa Kasam Films, alongside Hansal Mehta’s True Story Films, Pralay boasts a staggering budget of ₹300 crore, making it the most expensive standalone film of the actor’s career.
A High-Stakes Tale of Survival
At its core, Pralay is a high-octane survival story centering on a married couple fighting to stay alive amid a sudden, catastrophic city-wide outbreak.
While the makers have kept official casting confirmations tightly under wraps, industry buzz heavily indicates that Malayalam cinema star Kalyani Priyadarshan will be making her Bollywood debut as the female lead opposite Ranveer.
With September fast approaching, the countdown to Bollywood's most ambitious sci-fi horror experiment has officially begun. Keep your eyes peeled—Ranveer Singh is bound for Australia very soon.
