Black Label Society are paying tribute to one of heavy metal’s true originals, Ozzy Osbourne, with their 12th studio album Engines of Demolition set to land on March 27th.
The album includes a pretty special nod to Ozzy Osbourne, with track 13 simply titled “Ozzy’s Song”. Given Zakk Wylde’s long history as Ozzy’s guitarist and right-hand man, it feels less like a gimmick and more like a genuine salute.
Engines of Demolition follows 2021’s Doom Crew Inc. and is available for digital pre-order now. Preorders include the band’s previously released singles “Broken and Blind”, “Lord Humungus” and “The Gallows”, plus two unreleased tracks.
Wylde’s connection to Ozzy runs deep. He worked with the Prince of Darkness right through to the end, performing together at July’s Back to the Beginning farewell concert. Speaking last year on Loudwire Nights, Wylde admitted he never thought that gig would be the final chapter.
“I didn't think after we got done doing 'Mama' and 'Crazy Train' and everything like that [that] this is going to be the last time we're ever going to play or I'm ever going to see Sabbath again,” he said.
“I just figured we're going to hook up again when Ozzy's doing another record. He'd say, 'Come on down and do your diddly diddly on it' or whatever, you know?”
Black Label Society will take the album on the road with a North American tour, with Wylde pulling double duty as his Black Sabbath tribute act Zakk Sabbath handles support.
An album, a tour, and a proper tip of the hat to Ozzy. Love to see it.
