Ozzy Osbourne’s family have shared a tough chapter from the rock legend’s final weeks, revealing that he was secretly hospitalised just two weeks before his last ever show.
In the first episode of The Osbournes Podcast since Ozzy’s passing, Sharon, Jack and Kelly looked back on the Birmingham gig in July, his long health battle, and the days leading up to his death at 76.
Sharon said the hospital stay was kept tightly under wraps, and the family were terrified news would leak before he stepped onstage for the final time.
“So we had all the security and the hospital, the hospital was amazing, they really were,” she said. “The people at the front desk were told, ‘Nobody, if they ask for Ozzy, he’s not here. Nobody’s allowed up,’ all of that.”
But even the best plans can go sideways. Sharon said staff were thrown when a man arrived asking for “John Osbourne,” Ozzy’s legal name.
“They go, ‘Who are you?’ and he goes, ‘I’m his brother.’”
Sharon admitted she was convinced he was a reporter trying to sneak in, since the family hadn’t told Ozzy’s siblings about the hospitalisation.
“After harassing this poor man, they found out there was another John Osbourne in the hospital, and it was his brother. We felt so terrible.”
The family didn’t go into the reason for that final hospital visit, but Ozzy’s health struggles were well known. He’d undergone multiple spine surgeries after a fall in 2019 and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s the same year.
