When UK pop star Olivia Dean takes the stage on October 17th, her performance will mark more than just a memorable night for music fans - it will usher in a new era for the newly transformed Western Springs Bowl.
Serving as the venue’s debut concert, the show is forecast to bring in millions to the local economy.
The stadium has recently received a $2.5 million upgrade, in hopes of filling a crucial spot in Auckland’s network.
Dean’s show was originally scheduled for Spark Arena, but overwhelming ticket demand prompted promoters to move it to the outdoor amphitheatre - which has a capacity of 30,000.
Describing the announcement as "absolutely superb," Tātaki Auckland Unlimited Director of Destination Annie Dundas says that securing one of the world's fast-rising global talents is "such a great win - not only for the Bowl, but for [Olivia Dean]".

A multi-million dollar boost for local business
According to Dundas, hosting major events at Western Springs Bowl will deliver significant commercial benefits far beyond ticket sales.
The October concert alone is expected to generate 17,000 visitor nights in local accommodation, and contribute $2.6 million in GDP to the regional economy.
"So obviously that's money that's flowing through into hotels and hospitality and other attractions," Dundas explained.
With Dean’s entire Australian tour sold out, organisers are also expecting to see some overseas fans. "I think if you get the act right, consumers will follow," Dundas shared.
"We’re actually hoping that not only a whole bunch of Kiwis get to see her in Auckland [...] but we might attract some Australians across the Tasman who have missed out in Australia, but want to come and see her perform".
The concert also kicks off a massive weekend for regional tourism. In the afternoon before Dean takes the stage, Auckland FC will launch their season at Go Media Stadium, creating a dual-event weekend that encourages visitors to extend their stay, spend locally, and soak in the atmosphere.

Setting the Stage for a Stellar Summer
Olivia Dean’s headline show is just the opening chapter in a busy calendar for the revitalised venue.
American rock icons Foo Fighters are already locked in to play the Bowl in January 2027, with additional announcements expected as event promoters take advantage of the new layout.
"The team are working on more content because it's just such a superb venue," Dundas revealed.
By combining venue improvements with a strong lineup of international talent, Western Springs Bowl is already positioning itself as a powerful pillar of the region’s economic growth.
