Oasis overtake The Beatles with UK's best-selling studio album of all time

Oasis' 1995 album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? is officially the UK's bestselling studio album of all time.

The band has overtaken The Beatles' 1967 hit, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel have enjoyed a sales boost in recent weeks with their single Wonderwall peaking at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart due to its adoption as an unofficial anthem for England's FIFA World Cup run.

The album from which it came is the highest-ranking studio album according to the Official Charts Company (OCC), which reports that it has sold 6.2 million chart units since its release in October 1995, boosted by last summer's Live 25 reunion tour.

As part of the 70th anniversary celebrations, the OCC, which compiles the UK's weekly albums and songs charts, has released an updated list of the bestselling albums of all time.

Two compilations top the overall list: Queen's Greatest Hits remains at No. 1, followed by ABBA's Gold. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? is next on the list.

Adele's 21 comes in at No. 4, making it the only album released in the 21st century to land inside the top 10. This means that both the Oasis and Adele albums leapfrog Sgt. Pepper, which held the title when the figures were last compiled in 2016.
