Imagination comes to life in the trailer for the new NZ-made film 'I, Object'.
Forget 'Toy Story 5', this movie is breathing life into more than just the toy box. It’s giving voices to everyday objects, including an alarm clock, a cheese grater, a bottle of chocolate milk, and so much more.
“'I, Object' follows Tom, a 10-year-old boy with a vivid imagination,” the film’s synopsis reads. “After the sudden death of his father, Tom retreats into a fantastical world they once shared, where faces come alive in everyday objects.”
“But what was once a playful bond becomes an emotional refuge, distancing him from the real world. These companions guide Tom through his grief, helping him confront the loss of his father and, ultimately, rediscover his connections with the people around him.”
The trailer also sees Tom (Bentley Storteboom) meet Allie (Skywalker Hughes), someone else who can see the magic in the objects that surround them.
Together, they join forces and go on an adventure to save Tom’s dad’s things from their fate at the dump.
Shot in Wellington, the film features some pretty impressive Kiwi talent, including Jemaine Clement ('Flight of the Conchords') and Karl Urban ('The Boys', 'Lord of The Rings').

Joining the star studded cast are Anna Faris, Ethan Hawke and Skywalker Hughes, with Bentley Storteboom in the lead role.
But Urban and Clement aren’t the only Kiwi ties the film has. Acclaimed New Zealand filmmaker Andrew Niccol, whose work also includes writing and co-producing 'The Truman Show', is the man behind the film.
“My hope is that people enjoy the ride, but also maybe that they catch what I’ve caught, which is this kind of disease of seeing faces in objects,” Niccol says.
I’ve got a warning for you - once you start seeing them, you can’t stop.
So if you’re keen on imagination and want to join Tom along for the ride, 'I, Object' is set to hit cinemas around NZ from July 23.
