Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he has been recently diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome and how he is learning how to deal with it being "painful and uncomfortable".
Capaldi revealed the diagnosis in an interview with The Sun saying, "I have been diagnosed with Tourette's," and then joked, "I wanted to speak about it because I didn't want people to think I was taking cocaine or something."
"My shoulder twitches when I am excited, happy, nervous or stressed. It is something I am living with. It is not as bad as it looks."
He also opened up on the condition to his fans in an Instagram Live session, explaining that, "some days it's more painful than others, sometimes it's quite uncomfortable, but I guess that's it."
"It's a new thing. I haven't really learnt much about it. I got botox in my shoulder to stop it from moving, but I'm learning new ways to cope all the time," he added.
Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition that causes a combination of involuntary noises and movements called tics.
Capaldi revealed that he wasn't surprised to learn about the diagnosis.
"When they told me, 'we think you've got Tourette's', I was like, that makes so much sense."
Keeping a positive attitude, he continued: "It comes and goes. Sometimes I can go months without doing it. I thought I had some horrible degenerative disease, so I'll take Tourette's."
We love how he manages to stay positive and poke fun at the good and the bad in life. He truly is a treasure!
Capaldi joins Billie Eilish in embracing their tics and openly talking about Tourette's with fans.
Earlier this year, Eilish experienced a tic attack while being interviewed by David Letterman. She explained, "Fans think I'm going like [imitates tic] as a funny move, and so they go, 'ha', and I'm always left incredibly offended by that."
Letterman then realised he had responded in kind of the same way and was worried he might have pissed her off.
"Not at all," Eilish replied, adding: "I actually really love answering questions about it because it's very, very interesting. And I am incredibly confused by it, and I don't get it." It's great to see both the celebs talking about their diagnosis and have their fans connect and understand them better as people.
