We can all agree there’s nothing quite like a haka that’s full of mana and heart.
And a young tama named Tāmure performing at his great papa’s poroporoaki might just be one of the most moving haka we've seen in a long time.
In a video shared to TikTok, Tāmure leads his cousins and wider whānau in a powerful farewell at his great papa’s tangi.
Despite being non-verbal, he gives it absolutely everything he's got.
“Nothing stopping our boy from doing what he loves,” his mum, Tyra, wrote alongside the clip. “He was born with rare syndromes but everyone learns to understand his ways.”
Honestly, words aren't needed to understand what Tāmure is expressing.
Every movement is filled with emotion and mana - you can see every ounce of aroha, pride, and strength from him.
You can just see from the smiles from his whānau behind him, how proud they are to tautoko and see him lead.
If there's one thing we get behind in Aotearoa, it's moments like these. The ones that prove haka is so much more than the words spoken.
And the comments under the video show that plenty of people felt exactly the same way.
“That boy found his voice through haka,” one person wrote. “This must have been such a proud moment for all your whānau and him.”
Another added: “More proof that haka transcends words. It is from the heart and soul. This beautiful young man speaks it fluently.”
“He expressed EVERYTHING that needed to be expressed and more,” wrote a third.
We want nothing more than to see Tāmure continue to lead with his voice. He’s a true star and an inspiration.
