Nicki Minaj has explained why she supports U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Starships rapper has emerged as a vocal supporter of the American leader in recent months, having supported the 79-year-old at the Trump Accounts Summit and attended the premiere of the Melania documentary in January.

In an interview for TIME Magazine published on Wednesday, Nicki opened up about her reason for supporting the Republican politician.

"It's the same way Marilyn Monroe represents a vibe. Donald Trump is his own vibe," she told the outlet, insisting she isn't the only celebrity who feels the same. "Sometimes you just need one brave person to get the brunt of the impact. I think I am the catalyst for that change... Hopefully when they see me and hear me speak and feel my energy, that will make them say, 'You know what: Who am I afraid of? What am I afraid of?'"

The Super Bass star went on to recall how she started taking an interest in Trump's political moves amid his second presidential campaign but was concerned about the response from her peers in the music industry.

"I felt that way already about him, just that I didn't dare act like that publicly," the 43-year-old stated. "It's been ingrained in everyone's brain in the music business that we are supposed to be a Democratic family. I just knew they would not like me supporting Trump."

Elsewhere in the conversation, Nicki emphasised that the turning point in her decision to support the Republican Party was after U.S. representative Anna Paulina Luna reached out to her multiple times after she was at the centre of an alleged swatting attack in April 2025.

"I was shocked," she declared. "I'd never seen anyone in politics treat me that way... That's what made me say that I don't care to keep this a secret anymore."

Nicki released her fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2, in 2023.

Last October, the hip-hop artist announced that she had cancelled the planned release of her sixth studio album, noting that an unnamed party didn't want her "to put out music".
