The New Zealand wine industry is making significant strides towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050, according to New Zealand Wine Growers General Manager of Sustainability Dr Edwin Massey.
Dr Massey highlights the ambitious roadmap and key milestones, including improving energy efficiency, ditching diesel, decarbonizing electricity, and innovative carbon removal strategies.
He explains the industry's efforts are driven by the growing market demand for sustainable products, with certifications like Sustainable Wine Growing New Zealand covering 96% of vineyard areas.
Dr Massey says early adopters like Whitehaven, Yealands, and Felton Road are leading the charge in this by already implementing various sustainability initiatives.
