Over the weekend, Canadian rapper Bbno$ came to Aotearoa to perform for a gig and ended up in an iconic cultural crossover with us Kiwis.

The video posted by @lucyqueenofchaos on TikTok and Instagram kicks off with someone yelling, “You guys know what to do!”.

The crowd goes wild in the most wholesome way possible by singing him 'Tūtira Mai Ngā Iw'i. Zero hesitation. No warm-up. Just thousands of people instantly belting out the waita like it’s a reflex. Peak New Zealand behaviour, I call it!

nd Bbno$? That man was not ready. When the room hits that first iconic “AUE E!”, he does the funniest double-take. He then starts nodding along like ‘okay wait… this is kinda fire?’ the more the crowd gets into it. His whole face turns into a ‘I have no clue what’s happening but I’m 100 per cent here for it’ look.

And then… the man starts dancing. Like a little jiggy dance, bopping along to a waiata he absolutely did not see coming. You can literally see him switch from confusion to ‘nah this actually slaps’. He’s grinning, he’s stepping side to side, and he looks like he’s having the time of his life.

The crowd keeps singing their hearts out, and bbno$ doubles down by grabbing the Māori flag someone hands him. Suddenly, he’s waving it around like he’s been adopted by the entire country.

The comments on TikTok were gold. People loved watching the moment back, with one person saying, “pretty sure bbno$ had no idea what to do, but I admire this”. The best comment calling him “bbnopūtea,” and someone else pointing out his dance with a “HELP WHY’D HE DO A LITTLE JIG.”

The crowd absolutely killed it, he bloody loved it, and we were blessed with another iconic moment with an international artist I’m sure he’ll never forget.
