New Zealand’s cheerleaders are celebrating a well deserved victory after bringing home TWO gold medals at this year’s International Cheer Union Junior and World Cheerleading Championships.
Our teams headed to Orlando, Florida to go up against against tough competitors from around the globe on April 23-25.
And let me tell ya, after watching their performances, I was genuinely in awe of their strength, stamina, and energy.
Cheerleading doesn’t always get the hype it deserves here, but these athletes work so hard. Year after year, they’re smashing it on the world stage, consistently earning placings in the top of multiple categories.
This year, the Youth All Girl Median and Junior Coed Advanced teams both came out on top, earning first place in their respective categories!
In a clip posted by @teamnz.cheer on TikTok, the Youth All Girl team’s full winning performance was shared, and honestly, it’s no surprise they climbed from third in the semis to take the top spot - those clean, in-sync stunts were just… chef’s kiss!
And the Junior Coed Advanced team held first through both the semis and finals, showing off unreal tumbling skills and solid teamwork.
The medal announcements were met with love from Kiwis at home.
“Way to fly the flag for New Zealand, awesome,” said one commenter.
“YOU CAME, YOU CONQUERED, YOU ROCK. AWESOME RESULT 💯,” added another.
A third wrote: “This is a great achievement.”
Massive congrats to all the athletes and coaches - we’re seriously proud of you!
