Muroki releases his debut EP Dawn on BENEE's Olive Records label. Mixing and mashing touches of pop, soul, afro beat, reggae, jazz, hip hop and more into his sound, Muroki's reputation has grown quickly since BENEE picked out his self-released debut track For Better Or Worse to showcase on Elton John's Rock Hour radio show. The just-turned 20 year-old Raglan troubadour now showcases his effortlessly smooth vibes on a six track collection with its title coming from his Swahili name 'Muroki' which translates to "come with the dawn"
Listen to his new single Wavy above, and get to know him below.
Where do you call home? Raglan What inspired your song 'Wavy'? The Wavy groove was inspired by Brazilian samba rhythms. The idea was to grasp the vibe of a 'Fiesta' and mash it up with funk and new school sounds. The song was written about getting wavy at a music festival. What's your proudest musical moment? Definitely would have to be opening for Benee at Spark Arena and having the whole crowd put their phone torches in the air without me asking. What's a Kiwi song you're loving at the moment? I think it would have to be 'The Dream' by Trinity Roots.
What's one artist you would love to collaborate with? I would love to work 'Kaytranada' one day.
