One techno artist has used her brain and quite literally thought outside the box to create tunes using her own actual brain waves.
Kyoka shared her creative process in a recent short film which is unique, to say the least.
Whilst visiting Tokyo and Berlin's universities Kyoka had her brainwaves measured and has now incorporated those waves into sounds and added them to her latest track.
In the short film, Kyoka describes how she creates her "special sounds".
"Sometimes in the studio or somewhere I can get very special sounds, and I cannot recreate [the sound] anymore, so in that case why not use syntax?"
Kyoka goes on to share how she uses snippets of sound to create a longer tune: "If I have maybe four seconds or ten seconds of sound and I loop, I can make a one-minute song improvising and that's just amazing."
"A lot of sound is very spontaneous and the reason why I use syntax for this performance is because I love the quality of sound," she added.
Kyoka explains that her music over the years has been inspired by "system or habit of the brain" so she tried making her own "music theory" using syntax.
Analysing brainwaves and trying to reflect on what she finds in her music has inspired Kyoka to essentially create her own "music theory", adding that this is only just the beginning.
It's absolutely insane to think that brainwaves are now being used in music and I can't wait to see where this new potential music theory goes in the future.
