Catch the latest episode of The House of Wellness with Chemist Warehouse on The Breeze, where this time, co-host Mike Puru is in the hot seat!
Plus, Carolyn Taylor also sits down with former radio, TV and now podcast personality Sharyn Casey, Tomas Tappin from Two Dudes, editor of The House of Wellness magazine Vanessa Marshall, and resident pharmacist Piyara Perera.
Featured Guest: Mike Puru
This month’s cover star of The House of Wellness magazine is none other than our very own Mike Puru.
After spending decades in New Zealand media and having recently had a milestone birthday - the big five zero - Mike reflected on learning to feel comfortable in his own skin.
He credited the show for helping him embrace self-care, balance and authenticity, saying his focus has shifted from chasing a ‘beach body’ to prioritising health, happiness and connection with loved ones.
Mike says that running has been “really good” for his mind.
“You don’t have to go a long distance, you don’t have to go a short distance,” he said.
“You just have to do something and get to the end, and then you go ‘oh good’ I’ve done something good for me and good for my body.”
Featured Guest: Sharyn Casey
After nearly 20 years on the airwaves, beloved radio, TV and now podcast personality Sharyn Casey reflected on her radio journey, mental health and what’s next.
Sharyn’s career began when she landed her first radio role at More FM in Wairarapa before joining The Edge night show, where she made herself a household name.
Known for wearing her heart on her sleeve, Sharyn has always shared her life openly - but she’s learned to do so mindfully, especially when discussing personal topics like fertility struggles and mental health.
She began therapy when her eldest son was a toddler, determined to break the cycle of anxiety she didn’t want her children to inherit.
“I like to think of it as I’m going to catch up with my friend who legally can’t repeat anything I say,” she joked.
Nowadays, Sharyn has her own podcast, A Little Bit Extra, where she delves into all things pop culture and celebrity chaos.
Featured Guest: Tomas Tappin
From beer to body wash, co-founder of Two Dudes Tomas Tappin is redefining what it means for men to take care of themselves.
After leaving a career at Heineken, Tomas and co-founder Michael launched their Kiwi-made men’s grooming brand to make skincare simple, approachable and stigma-free.
This November, Two Dudes is taking their mission nationwide with a fundraising tour for Movember, aiming to break donation records while raising awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Editor of The House of Wellness Magazine: Vanessa Marshall
With the release of November’s issue of The House of Wellness magazine, editor Vanessa Marshall joined the show to chat about what’s inside.
On the cover is our very own Mike Puru, who’s been training for the Auckland Marathon while celebrating his milestone 50th birthday, proving it’s never too late to get fit.
Inside, you’ll also find delicious recipes from Gretchen Low, including a standout lemony baked feta with honey and pistachios, and a piece on tackling modern parenting with It’s Smart to Be Dumb.

Resident Pharmacist: Piyara Perera
With so many smart rings, watches and apps available, tracking your health can feel overwhelming. This week, Piyara joined Carolyn to break down which health metrics really matter.
Piyara explained that the most useful metrics are ones that reflect your overall wellbeing, such as daily activity levels, heart rate and sleep quality.
Rather than fixating on exact numbers, Piyara recommended paying attention to trends as these reveal how your body responds to stress, fitness and recovery.
Featured Product: L’Oreal Professionnel Vitamino Colour Spectrum
The L’Oreal Professionnel Vitamino Colour spectrum range includes a sulfate-free cream-to-foam cleansing shampoo, conditioner and waterless Glass Shine Serum.
Including the highest concentration of actives (ferulic acid + citric acid), the conditioner penetrates at the deepest layer to lock dyes in the fibre.
Concentrated with 5% Alpha-silane, the Glass Shine Serum provides heat protection up to 230 degrees and has ten times more shine, anti-fading and anti-frizz.
For those who regularly colour their hair and experience dulling and fading, this range protects and enhances the five dimensions of colour: shine, saturation, contrast, tone and brightness - meaning hair is both shinier and softer!
