Two of the most well-known DJs in the world teamed up to give one of the all-time great songs an EDM makeover.
Fisher and Chris Lake collabed with Italian dance music producer Sante Sansone to remix the transcendent 2013 tune 'Somebody That I Used To Know'. It sounds like a dream recipe for a #instantbanger, but it's turned out to be one of the most divisive tracks I've ever come across.
Since the remix came out, listeners have either been all over it or labelling it blasphemous to the genre, with not many falling in the middle of the two opinions.
Scrolling through the YouTube comments is a perfect example. One comment calls it "absolute fire" and "modern house music at its best". The next says it's "one of the least imaginative remixes ever done," adding it's "the same song with basic EDM cheese on top".
EDM.com posted the track's release on their Instagram and their comments are just as divided.
"Kinda mid to be honest," one person wrote.
"About to be the remix of the summer," said another.
Haven't seen a general opinion on a track this split since me and the fellas sang the whole '99 bottles of beer' song on the public bus from Auckland to Gizzy for R&V 2023 (mates loved it, everyone else hopped off at Hamilton when they realised we weren't gonna quit).
One remixed classic that everyone agreed was a banger is Dom Dolla's 'Black Betty' remix. He pulled it out of his thick mo late last year at 'Spilt Milk' festival and had everyone frothing at it.
It's nearly three months later and Mr. Dolla still hasn't dropped the tune on streaming services. Now it's just a remix that we used to know.
