Metallica are heading back to New Zealand this November, but before they hit the stage, they’re lending their hand to local farming-led charity Meet the Need to help feed Kiwi families.
The band’s charitable foundation, All Within My Hands (AWMH), has teamed up with Meet the Need for a volunteer food packing event tackling one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing issues: food insecurity.
The event will bring together 50 Metallica fans to pack food parcels for families across the country. If you’re keen to get amongst it, you can register to volunteer here.
For Metallica, this kind of work isn’t new - they’ve been doing it quietly behind the scenes for years.
The band launched All Within My Hands back in 2017 as a way to give back to the communities - with the goal being to fight hunger, fund education, and help people build better futures. Over the years, they’ve put millions into food banks, scholarships, and disaster relief around the world.
Meet the Need have been turning donated livestock and milk into real food for foodbanks across the country since 2020, and have helped provide more than 3 million meals to Kiwis.
Teaming up with Meet the Need for the band’s New Zealand leg of the tour was made possible by CNH, the company behind Case IH tractors, who’ve been backing Meet the Need and saw the perfect fit with Metallica’s mission to fight hunger.
“Right now, 1 in 4 children in New Zealand are going hungry, and we need to shine a light on this reality,” Zellara Holden, General Manager of Meet the Need said in a press release.
“By bringing fans, farmers, and our community together, we can make a real impact and turn fan power into a force for good.”
Always epic to see good people doing good stuff for the community. If you have the means and would like to donate, you can here.
Make sure you’re listening to The Morning Rumble tomorrow (Friday 24) to be in to win tickets to Metallica’s sold-out Eden Park gig.
