Meryl Streep hopes to appear in Mamma Mia! 3

She's convinced a little thing like death won't stop her character from appearing in a threequel.

Meryl Streep hopes to return for a third Mamma Mia! film.

Fans of the film franchise will recall that Meryl's character, Donna Sheridan, was revealed to be dead in the 2018 sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

But the acting icon is convinced a little thing like death won't stop her character from appearing in a threequel.

The 74-year-old told Deadline at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday evening, "I don't know how they're going to do it. They have an idea. I haven't heard it yet but (a meeting is) in (my diary) and I'm going to hear about it pretty soon."

And Meryl can't wait to dive back into the musical world of ABBA, saying, "Of course I want to do it. I think folks love it."

The first Mamma Mia! film was released in 2008 and was a box office smash, raking in over $694 million (£550 million) while the second, which added music legend Cher to the cast, made $402 million (£319 million).

The films are produced by Judy Craymer who claims ABBA stars Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus are hesitant about plans to make a third instalment.

She told the Daily Star earlier this year, "A third movie is something I want to do very much. The studio wants to do it. Benny and Bjorn need a bit more persuasion.

"They're saying, 'There aren't enough songs'. And I say, 'There are enough songs and I know how they could work."
