Meghann Fahy was impressed by co-star Justin Long's ability to improvise for long stretches of time on the set of You Deserve Each Other.
In the upcoming adaptation of Sarah Hogle's book, You actor Penn Badgley and Sirens star Meghann play Nicholas and Naomi, an engaged couple who suffer from cold feet and try to goad the other into calling off the wedding.
During an appearance on Penn's podcast Podcrushed, Meghann noted that no take was the same when their co-star Long was on set because he often went off-script and was able to sustain the improv for long periods of time.
"He is the riffiest riffer of all time but we were p**sing ourselves. He's so funny," The White Lotus star praised. "There's one scene in particular where he's making a speech... and I think we were just rolling (filming) and nobody wanted to cut him off because he was just so funny... it was minutes upon minutes of him making stuff up."
She continued, "It was genuinely so impressive to see him be able to sustain that kind of improv that was good. There was no kind of like, 'All right, well this has gone on for too long now and he really needs to (wrap up).' It was just good material."
The former Gossip Girl actor added that Justin, who plays his best friend in the film, "did not ever say what was scripted", something he found difficult in their one-on-one scenes because he was torn between sticking to his lines or improvising with Justin.
"I can't not do that with him, he's doing that, (but) sometimes he would do it so much that the scene's going somewhere else," he explained. "I was trying to keep the train on the tracks... (but then I thought), 'Well, I have to go with him because they're not saying cut.'"
Badgley, who generally prefers to stick to the script, acknowledged that the film's co-directors and co-writers Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn assured him that they were happy with their improvised moments.
You Deserve Each Other is currently without a release date.
