Bobi has broken the world record for being the oldest living dog.
He's also the oldest dog ever! He is 30 years and 294 days old as of March 1, 2023.
Bobi is a Rafeiro do Alentejo, a Portuguese breed. This breed typically has a lifespan of 12 to 14 years.
Bobi was born on 11 May 1992 and has been living with his owner Leonel Costa since he was 8 years old in Portugal.
"I was eight years old," said Leonel Costa now aged 38.
"My father was a hunter, and we always had many dogs."
Bobi has neither been chained up nor attached to a leash, enjoying the freedom of roaming around the forests and farmland surrounding the Costa family house which may have contributed to his longevity.
When the owner was asked what could be the reason for his longevity, he said, "If Bobi spoke only he could explain this".
However, Leonel does think that one of the biggest contributing factors would be the "calm, peaceful environment" that Bobi lives in - he lives "far from cities".
When it comes to food, Bobi has always eaten 'human food' - perhaps this is the other contributing factor?
"What we ate, they ate too," Leonel said.
The owner too thinks that this could be one of the reasons behind his longevity.
"Between a can of animal food or a piece of meat, Bobi doesn't hesitate and chooses our food."
Leonel always soaks food in water before serving it to his pets, so as to remove most of the seasonings.
As Bobi turns 31 in a few months - we wish Bobi with good health!
