McKay on Sport: First All Blacks squad, Shane Van Gisbergen masterclass and more

George and McKay talked about Wimbledon, some of the best sports docuseries to watch and more.

Every Friday Dominic George catches up with REX host and sports guru Hamish McKay for his rundown of the week's biggest sporting moments, what's coming up on the weekend and everything in between.

McKay told George the first All Black squad of the year contains a number of interesting selections.

"Dane Coles to start at hooker surely that's a last chance saloon.

"Beauden Barrett at fullback is an interesting one, Damien McKenzie starts at 10 so you can see a bit of a pattern here.

"Whitelock and Retallic not being involved and also Richie Mo'unga not being involved."

The exclusion of Crusaders fullback Will Jordan due to what is being called a 'migrainous condition' is also a concern not only for the All Blacks but for Jordan's future in rugby.

The All Blacks are set to open their Rugby Championship competition off against Argentina in Mendoza at 7:10 am on Sunday, July 9 New Zealand time, and McKay is excited to see how this new-look team goes.

"I get the feeling that the message, very clearly is Rugby Championship will find out what we've got, who we've got, we will rest what we've got if necessary because the only thing that matters is a thing called the RWC."

With Australia rolled over for just 265, England ended the first day on 68/3 with Johnny Bairstow and Joe Root at the crease for the hosts.

A must-win for England, McKay is looking forward to see how the next few days of the third test of The Ashes play out.

Rolling out of the weekend last week, Kiwi driver Shane Van Gisbergen became the first driver to win on his NASCAR Cup Series debut in 60 years.

Mckay told George it seems there is pretty much nothing this guy can't do when it comes to professional driving.

"He must be the most talented, multi-faceted driver in the world.

"The only reason he's probably going to be ruled out of formula one is his height and weight but, I still wouldn't rule that one out."

George and McKay talked about Wimbledon, some of the best sports docuseries to watch and more on this week's sports catchup.
