Matty Healy’s mum is 'glad' she's not Taylor Swift's mother-in-law

"It was tricky."

Denise Welch has revealed she's "glad" she isn't Taylor Swift's mother-in-law.

The 'Loose Women' star appeared on 'Watch What Happens Live' on Thursday, where host Andy Cohen quizzed about her son Matty Healy's short-lived romance with the superstar singer.

Denise didn't hold back when she was asked how she felt about Taylor's 2024 album 'The Tortured Poets Department', which is believed to feature several tracks inspired by her rocker ex.

"Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but not being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost," Denise shared, as the audience were heard gasping in shock.

"Not that I have anything against her at all. It was just - it was tricky."

Following the release of 'The Tortured Poets Department' last year, fans speculated tracks including 'Guilty as Sin', 'Down Bad' and 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived' had been written following her split from The 1975 frontman.

The songs touched upon intense feelings, guilt and being ghosted after a whirlwind romance.

During the 'Watch What Happens Live' appearance, Denise seemingly agreed that some of the tracks were about her son.

"She - listen, you're not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it," the TV presenter claimed.

Elsewhere in the interview, the 67-year-old star insisted Matty doesn't hold any hard feelings towards Taylor and had taken the album gossip "all in completely good grace".

Denise also revealed her son is content in his new relationship with model-and-musician Gabriella Bechtel.

"He is very happy with his amazing fiancée Gabriella, who is gorgeous," Denise insisted. "So, we've moved on."

Matty and Taylor dated briefly in 2023.
