Maren Morris burned herself out trying to 'win every battle' online

Maren Morris took a break from getting involved in "every conversation" online because she became burned out.

The My Church singer, who is outspoken about political and social issues, has taken a step back because she realised it was exhausting being involved in so many online discourses.

"Having to be in every conversation, win every battle, clap back at every a*shole... I did burn out and I had to rest," she told Rolling Stone.

Of her most famous online battles, the 36-year-old called Brittany Aldean, the wife of country star Jason Aldean, an "Insurrection Barbie" after she made transphobic comments in 2022.

Conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson referred to Morris as a "lunatic country music person" on TV, and the singer made T-shirts bearing the phrase, raising money for charities supporting transgender youth.

Reflecting on her "Insurrection Barbie moment", Maren said with a laugh, "I'll own it, because I just think it's not offensive - it's funny. I think that's what chaps anyone's a*s who thinks it's offensive, because, deep down, they're like, 'Damn, that's good.'"

The Middle singer also sparked controversy within the country music community after announcing her pivot away from the genre in 2023, citing the industry's unwillingness to address issues such as misogyny and racism.

Although she now plays to smaller crowds in more intimate venues, Maren has no regrets about being outspoken.

"I never have a moment of, 'Gosh, I would be in a much different place, a better place career-wise, if I had just played the game and kept my mouth shut and kissed the proverbial ring,'" she insisted. "I feel a little bit more at peace and vindicated, because I've not changed my tune."
