'Married at First Sight Australia' has kicked off a new season, and it’s set to be just as spicy as usual.
Si and Lana caught up with relationship expert John Aiken, who’s been part of the show since it launched in 2014.
Even after more than a decade, he says the experiment still surprises him.“Every year, I get a front row seat in the world of dating and relationships. And it’s a crazy world out there.”
This season sounds like it’ll bring the usual drama, but in a slightly different way.
“In the past, we’ve seen men behaving badly,” Aiken explains.
“This year, there’s a group of women who call themselves the ‘Boss Babes.’ There are six of them, and they band together. They challenge the experts, they challenge their partners, and they try to dominate the experiment.”
However, he said that personalities keep the audience coming back.
“They’re very big personalities. They typically have little or no insight into their behaviour. On the show, it probably takes you ten minutes, and you’ll go, ‘Oh, I know why you’re single.’”
The new season also marks a first for the show, featuring a bisexual bride who tells the producers they are open to anyone, with the Bride telling the experts, “I don’t mind whether you match me with a man or a woman. You just surprise me.’”
Aiken admitted to Si and Lana that the long-term success rate isn’t overly successful.
“We’ve had six couples over the years who are still together now. It’s not a massive strike rate”.
“When you put two big personalities together under pressure with cameras on them, it doesn’t always end in a fairy tale.”
More FM’s own Simon Barnett is stepping in as the Married At First Sight unofficial reviewer (despite never watching it before). Every Thursday, he’ll be giving his honest take on the More FM Breakfast Club.
