‘It’s too much’: Louis Tomlinson tells fans why he’s ditching X

"It’s hurtful."

Louis Tomlinson has revealed "hurtful" comments have forced him to quit social media.

The One Direction singer made the announcement via his X account in the early hours of Tuesday, as he admitted the ongoing negative speculation about his personal life had become too much to deal with.

"The last few months have made it impossible to be on here," Louis wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "All the conspiracy chat about my relationship, my son or even stretching sometimes to opinions on my Mum. It's just too much and too hurtful for me to see!"

The 33-year-old star, who has a nine-year-old son Freddie with former partner Briana Jungwirth, has faced fresh interest in his love life in recent months since he began dating British reality TV star Zara McDermott.

Louis has experienced a great deal of personal loss since he found fame with One Direction in 2010. His mother Johannah Deakin died of leukaemia in 2016 and just three years later, his younger sister Félicité Tomlinson passed away following an accidental overdose.

In October last year, Louis' bandmate Liam Payne died after falling from a hotel balcony.

As Louis wrapped up his emotional message, he took time to pay tribute to the loyal supporters who have always shown him kindness.

He signed off by writing: "Thank you to everyone who always has my back!"
