Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Nas X has entered a not guilty plea to several charges, including injuring a police officer and resisting arrest.
The 26-year-old, real name Montero Lamar Hill, was taken into custody last week after authorities responded to reports of a man roaming Los Angeles streets wearing only his underwear.
According to police, when they approached him, Lil Nas X allegedly rushed at officers, leading to a confrontation.
He now faces three felony counts of battery causing injury to a law enforcement officer and one count of resisting arrest.
Following the early morning altercation on Thursday, Lil Nas X was transported to a nearby hospital for a suspected overdose.
He appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday, where his bail was set at $75,000.
TMZ shared footage and photos that appear to show the ‘Old Town Road’ singer strolling and dancing along a Studio City street in white underwear and cowboy boots shortly before the incident.
Despite the legal trouble, Lil Nas X is gearing up to release his highly anticipated second album, ‘Dreamboy’, later this year, teasing snippets of new music on social media.
Lil Nas X sparked controversy in the trans community a few years back when he joked about transitioning, and now some fans are speculating his recent behaviour could be an attempt to promote his new music.
Here’s hoping Nas is okay, and the next time he makes headlines, it’s for all the right reasons *awkward laughing*.
