Piero, the Argentine singer/songwriter whose songs and clear voice influenced generations of Latin fans, has died. He was 81 years old.
His death in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 7 October was confirmed on his social media accounts.
"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Piero at the age of 81," the message on Instagram read.
"His voice, his songs, and his message of peace remain with us forever. His light will continue to shine wherever his music reaches. His family and friends thank you for your messages. Safe travels, dear Piero."
Born Piero Antonio Franco De Benedictis, the artist later known simply as Piero achieved fame with his debut album, Mi Viejo, which included the single of the same name.
A touching ode to his father, the song is performed at birthday parties throughout South America as the ultimate tribute to fathers everywhere.
Mi Viejo, which was written with José Tcherkaski, was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2007.
In 2016, Piero was honoured with a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Piero was last on tour in June last year, celebrating 60 years of his career and 80 years of life with his Piero, Mi Querido Viejo (My Dear Old Man) tour.
