Summer’s almost here, and as some parts of the country are already sweating through some scorcher days, plenty of Kiwis are reaching for a refreshing bev.

Whether it’s a fizzy drink fresh out the fridge or a coffee loaded with ice, there’s one thing we all dream about on a hot day... a cool down cure!

But what if it didn’t have to be one or the other? Speedy from More FM’s Breakfast Club spent the weekend in Auckland, where he spotted a concoction you’d think a keen 12-year-old whipped up in the kitchen - lemonade AND coffee.

Turns out, the shock of actually enjoying it sparked an idea that he brought back to the team, this time with a Kiwi twist.

An L&P latte was put to the test this morning. The crew each had a shot of espresso, topped it off with fizzy.

They went with zero sugar, which might’ve been mistake number one after letting Bondy pour the espresso...

The reaction was mixed…

“It’s like when you first did a shot as a student,” Bondy said, painting THAT mental image we all forgot about years ago.

Lana described it as “tarty”, while Speedy compared it to “diesel”, but he couldn’t decipher if it was “in a good way or not”.

It’s not the only quirky drink experiment making waves this summer. Red Bull matcha is trending hard on TikTok and even scored a spot on The Cookie Trader’s menu in Christchurch.

Others are experimenting with it at home, too.

It’s giving dirty soda vibes we saw go mega viral in 2024 after 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' put us on their favourite Swig soda combinations.

I’ve tried a few myself, and TRUST, they’re worth giving a go. No caffeine overload required.
