An emotional Lady Gaga bowed down in tears to an audience of 60,000 fans in the pouring rain as she had to cancel her 'Chromatica Ball' show in Florida over the weekend before posting a tearful video on Instagram explaining why she wanted to keep everybody safe.
Due to the weather conditions, Gaga had to end the show early for health and safety reasons. She addressed the crowd, asking them to "please go home", keeping their best interests at heart.
She then took to Instagram backstage to tearfully explain that it was not safe for anyone to be caught in the storm just to see an "epic performance of Rain On Me, in the rain".
In the clip, Gaga explained: "Hi everybody. Thank you so much for coming to the Chromatica Ball. We really tried to finish the show tonight, but we really couldn't because even when the rain stopped, there was lightning that was striking down to the ground so close to us."
Choking back the tears, her voice cracked as she continued: "I know that for a really long time, I've always wanted to be, like, that hardcore bad b***h, but what I also want is to be responsible and loving, and I don't know what I would do if anything happened to anyone in the audience or any members of my crew, so I'm sorry that we didn't get to do the epic version of Rain On Me."
In a follow-up pic of Gaga holding up flowers that a fan had thrown onstage, she wrote: "Look, for years some of you have called me "mother monster," in my heart, I knew it was better to keep you safe."
"Sure, OF COURSE, I wanted to sing rain on me for you in the rain. "I'd rather be dry, but at least I'm alive"—I guess somehow I knew this moment would happen, and I am so grateful to you, my dancers, my band, the whole crew, everyone, my family and friends. Safety first. Love you," she signed off.
It must be the hardest decision for artists to cancel their shows, but in this case, Gaga knew what was best, and we are glad that everyone's safety was her top priority. We can wait to see that epic 'Rain On Me' performance happen another day, safely, of course!
