Lady Gaga and Shakira are among the artists nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year.

On Thursday, officials announced the nominees for the next round of inductions into the prestigious institution, which is "dedicated to recognising and celebrating the lives and legacies of the songwriters behind the world's most enduring songs".

Alongside the Born This Way singer and Hips Don't Lie hitmaker, other music stars to be nominated in the "performing songwriters" category for the class of 2027 include Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell of America, Debbie Harry and Chris Stein of Blondie, Boy George, Vince Gill, Melvin Glover aka Grandmaster Melle Mel, Ne-Yo, P!NK, Sia, soul-rock band WAR, Jack White, and ZZ Top.

Songwriters in the "non-performing" category include Pete Bellotte, George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam of Boy Meets Girl, Kandi Burruss, Andreas Carlsson, Tom Douglas, Bob McDill, Maurice Starr, will.i.am, Dan Wilson, and Toni Wine.

There are also several songwriter partnerships in the running this year, including Stargate's Mikkel Eriksen and Tor Hermansen, Stock Aitken Waterman's Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman, as well as Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein, and Richard Gottehrer.

A songwriter with a catalogue of notable songs qualifies for induction 20 years after their first significant commercial release of a track.

Eligible voting members have until 14 December to submit ballots, and the winners will be announced at the 2027 Induction & Awards Gala in New York City.

Nile Rodgers has served as chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame since 2017.
