Kiwi woman shocked to find huge rock disguised in her bag of potatoes

“Can someone else check their potatoes, please?"

A woman got more than she bargained for on her latest grocery run - and not in a good way.

Memory Carterton from Ōpōtiki made the 45-minute drive from her small Bay of Plenty town (where there’s only one supermarket) to the Whakatāne Pak’nSave and came back with a 3kg bag of Pams potatoes in her shop.

It wasn’t until she opened the bag at home that she realised something was off.

Filming herself going through the bag, Memory showed off your average unwashed Agria spud. But the next one she pulled out was oddly heavy… like, well, a ROCK.

“It looks like a potato, right?” she said in the now-viral TikTok video, which has been seen 300,000 times and racked up over 24,000 likes in just 24 hours.

Be warned: there’s a fair bit of colourful language in the clip.

The sound of comparing the two on the bench was almost a dead giveaway in itself.

But still, it could’ve just been a weird potato, so Memory grabbed the kitchen scales to weigh the monstrosity.

To no surprise, the heavy, solid lump weighed in at a whopping 1.187kg… more than a third of the bag’s offering.

“Is this a rock? Is half of this bag just because of this rock?” Memory asked in disbelief.

Still covered in dirt and refusing to budge when squeezed, it was time to uncover the truth. She gave it a wash - and what do you know? The solid grey texture underneath was revealed, resulting in a fit of laughter with an undertone of utter disappointment.

“It’s an actual rock,” she said. “Can someone else check their potatoes, please? I don’t usually get Pams.”

“Oh nah, bro… F you Pams,” she joked before ending the recording.

Other Kiwis found the video just as hilarious, with one writing: “It’s almost too funny to get mad 🤣🤣🤣🤣.”

“That’s the golden ticket,” someone else added.

A third chimed in: “Why are you so harsh on a rock that aspires to be a potato? You’re breaking its heart. You don’t know what it has gone through to finally get to your kitchen…”

Honestly, if you don’t laugh at these things, you’ll cry. But hey, it was a pretty convincing disguise. I'm lowkey shocked this doesn’t happen more often.
