New Zealand-Samoan actress Frankie Adams' latest role is one she’s not playing - you are.
The former ‘Shortland Street’ star features as a playable operator in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 set for release next month.
Leilani Tupuola, also known as 50/50, is a character said to have been born in Gisborne and has affiliations to New Zealand Special Air Service.
In terms of her appearance, her likeness to Adams is striking, but Leilani does feature a broader and muscular build with Samoan tatau (tattoos) across her arms.
It’s unclear how involved Frankie was in developing her character, but behind-the-scenes footage seems to show her playing the role of 50/50 in real life.
According to GameSpot, “50/50 suffers from a degenerative disease that has evidently cost her some of her limbs. However, she replaces these with bionic implants readily available by 2035, and according to the game's developers, they pack a hell of a punch.”
Kiwi and Samoan fans of the game have been reacting to 50/50, with one TikTok sharing a video and writing: “I don’t usually care for COD operators, but the way I screamed like a little girl when I noticed FRANKIE ADAMS IN HERE.”
“We love representation 👏🏼,” one commenter wrote.
Another added: “I. Have. Been. Waiting. YEARS for a poly girl. Finalllyyyy!”
“That's the third Polynesian in a Call of Duty game🙏,” said a third.
Two other characters include American Samoan Benjamin Fitisemanu (Modern Warfare III, Warzone 2.0) and Hawaiian Francis Lanakila (Vangurad, Warzone).
It’s epic to see more Poly representation hitting the gaming world.
