'Diabolical!': Peppermayo respond to Kiwi girl receiving larvae-infested package

Kiwi girls have found their clothing packages from one popular Australian-based brand packed with unexpected bugs…and eggs!

TikToker Jayd Graham shared that she had purchased three items from Peppermayo boutique, and once they arrived on her doorstep, she was horrified to find more than just her dresses.

While two separately bagged items were good as gold, the third appeared to be filled with hundreds of live ants and what appeared to be insect larvae.

“Is that ant eggs, maggot eggs? I don’t know what that is,” Jayd questioned.

I was literally gagging. That is disgusting, especially when it’s come from another country.

Jayd quickly reported the issue back to the online store, but received back what people are calling a “template response” promising a further reply within 48 hours.

A second NZ shopper alleged she had also received a package with the same infestation.

Jordyn, a Kiwi-based makeup artist, also took to TikTok, commenting, “no, because this happened to me too”, under Jayd’s video.

A photo of another ant-riddled dress, in a different style and colour, was added to her comment.

Commenters on both of the girls’ social media accounts have expressed concern for New Zealand’s biosecurity.

“You should legitimately be reporting this to customs,” one person wrote.“If their clothes are coming from overseas with larvae in it, they could be in some serious trouble.”

Another said: “That’s diabolical.”

Someone else questioned: “How the heck did this get through customs?!”

“THIS IS MAKING MY SKIN CRAWL JUST WATCHING THIS 😭😭😭GIRL IM SO SORRY,” a fourth wrote.

As for any further response from the company, Peppermayo offered Jayd 50% store credit for the item affected and to keep the original dress in the condition it was sent in, or a refund, requiring she sent the dress and all of the ants back on their merry way to Aussie.

WHAT?!?

After Jayd shared her disappointment to their email response, Peppermayo entered the chat in her TikTok comments, claiming that their pick and pack process “has multiple checks in place, so it must be a courier issue..."

In a follow-up video, the store seemingly changed its tune, offering a full refund, a full replacement order and $100 store credit.

While the compensation was appreciated, Jayd has since contacted biosecurity, who requested to leave the package as is for samples to be taken.

The samples have allegedly been identified as an Australian species, and the results have been reported back to Jayd, claiming that the species is already inhabiting parts of New Zealand.

So while it seems like there’s no harm done, and we can wipe the sweat off our brows about a new species sneaking its way into NZ, understandably, Jayd has been left pissed off about the whole debacle.
