Kiwi Discovery: Hyan - Board Shorts

Hyan, the peoples champ, the gizzy gold guzzler, the absolute fellah, he's done it again.

Donning his favourite Billabong Andy Irons rising sun boardies (“RIP A.I the goat!”) Hyan has delivered a silky little number to keep those summer vibes pumping (shaka bra).

“I purchased a sick pair of baby blue O’Neil boardshorts from the op shop in Gizzy. They were proper sick, the kind of boardies your cousin would wear in 2004. I felt so tino pai that I had to write a tune to encapsulate my feeling. I wrote it in my sisters back yard under the shade of a flax bush with my laptop on the grass. I cooked the whole track in like an hour, it just felt so good!”

And that's exactly how it feels to listen to this track, so good. Hyan just has the knack to write a real head nodder of a tune. This one a more understated approach than some of his other records like ‘Runners’ and ‘Locked In’. Giving you this rolling bassline and vocal stab that puts your dome straight into a float pod.
