Our latest George FM 'Kiwi Discovery' is from Huia and Baitercell - Kākano, Seed.
Kākano is track 5 of Huia's upcoming album, Kawakawa due to be released later this year. The track is a stunning, liquid drum and bass number, ready for any dancefloor. In a social media post about the new track, Huia said, "Kākano means Seed, and this waiata (song) speaks of planting seeds and watching them bloom on forever."
Huia's music has been described as a 'sonic cultural experience' and 'electronic music with spirit'. Huia is an award-winning artist, she won Best Māori Wahine Solo Artist (WMMA) and has received multiple nominations and was a finalist for the SRN Awards for her waiata Tuia Tuia ō Whakapapa feat. Sean Richards, alongside the winner 2023 Mokotron.
Baitercell is a skilled producer who has a number of accolades as a multi-award winner and Silver Scrolls finalist. His production on Kākano, skillfully and seamlessly brings together symphonic elements and Huia's incredible vocals.
Huia's music has seen her performing and representing New Zealand culture worldwide, recently playing in Canada and Scotland, and an upcoming gig still to come at Osaka World Expo in Japan.
