KFC's new menu item brings a taste of Japan to NZ - but not for long

Featuring one of the greatest condiments in the world!

KFC NZ has just dropped a brand-new menu item, and honestly, I reckon it’s scratching my 'need-to-go-on-a-holiday' itch… for now.

Bringing a little taste of Japan to Aotearoa, the Colonel has released a new KFC Katsu Bowl. Lord knows I can't afford a flight to Tokyo right now, so this might just have to do.

We’re seeing crunchy slaw, a solid scoop of jasmine rice and Japanese mayo (I was sold with that alone).

Depending on how you handle your spice, you can go for the hot Zinger fillet with chilli relish, or keep it mild with the OG Secret Recipe fillet and teriyaki sauce.

And if you want to mix it up, both bowls allow you to swap the sauces to what you prefer.

Whichever one you go for, both sound like a bloody good solution for those nights you really can't be bothered cooking or packing lunch - especially at $12.99 a pop.

KFC's Marketing Director says the Katsu Bowls have come from a "growing appetite for globally inspired flavours", promising a "balanced meal" filled with "bold, fresh flavours".

They've been added to KFC menus nationwide from today, but they're not sticking around forever.

Earlier this year, the Colonel put another twist on the classic Kentucky Fried Chicken, using the batter to whip up fish and chips for a good cause. 'KF&C' lasted for one day only, in just one location at Auckland's Mairangi Bay Surf Club, but people went wild for it.

With so many limited-edition menu items coming and going, you just have to wonder what could be next?
