Kelly Osbourne took to the stage at the 10th annual Birmingham Awards on Friday (Oct 17), to accept a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award for her legendary dad, Ozzy Osbourne.

Kelly delivered a heartfelt speech, speaking about her dad’s deep connection to the city of Birmingham.

“Birmingham made my dad who he was. He never forgot where he came from, and this city was always in his heart. On behalf of our family, thank you for honouring him in the place he loved most,” she said while accepting the award.

“He performed thousands of shows for more than five decades. But the most important gig he ever played was in Aston,” she continued.

“Despite his health challenges in later years, he was determined that his final concert had to be right here. He was a proud Brummy at the beginning of his career, and he was a proud Brummy at the end.

“Again, on behalf of my dad and my family, thank you for this wonderful lifetime achievement award. I know he’s looking down on us, smiling with pride.”

The next day, Kelly shared a few photos on Instagram, proudly holding Ozzy’s award at the iconic Black Sabbath Bridge alongside her fiancé, Slipknot’s Sid Wilson.

“Last night I had the honour of accepting my father’s lifetime achievement award on his behalf at the @birminghamawards. I can’t thank everyone enough for their love and support,” she wrote.

“I know that my dad was shining down on us from heaven with pride because being a #Brummy meant more to him than anything. He loved the city and he loved the people. This honour would have meant the world to him. From the bottom of my heart thank you. #birminghamforever”

Ozzy’s connection to Birmingham ran deep. He grew up in a tiny two-bedroom house in Aston with five siblings, just a couple of miles from Villa Park, where he played his final Back to the Beginning show on July 5th.

17 days later, the Prince of Darkness passed away at age 76.

Event organisers Ifraz Ahmed and Anita Chumber, founders of the Birmingham Awards, said it was an incredible moment to have Kelly there to accept the award.

“Ozzy’s impact on the world is immeasurable, but his roots will always be here in Birmingham. His legacy continues to inspire generations, and we are deeply proud to recognise his contribution to music, culture, and our city,” they said.

Black Sabbath were also recognised at the ceremony, taking home their own Lifetime Achievement Award - a fitting nod to the band that started it all with humble Birmingham beginnings.
