Josh O'Connor has revealed the "level of secrecy" surrounding his role in Steven Spielberg's next blockbuster Disclosure Day.
In the famed director's upcoming sci-fi action movie, O'Connor and Emily Blunt play a cybersecurity expert and a meteorologist wrestling with an extra-terrestrial cover-up. Further plot details are being kept under wraps.
To protect the film's secrets, the British actor received the script under very unusual circumstances.
"When I received the script I was filming Knives Out and I was in a hotel and a motorbike turned up with the script, and a motorbike turned up to take away the script the next morning," he told The Associated Press.
"That's the first time that's happened for me. It's a very strange experience but it makes sense. You know, anytime you hear that Steven's got a film coming out, everyone, myself included, wants to know what it is, so I totally understand why."
Disclosure Day marks a return to alien movies for Spielberg following 1977's Close Encounters of the Third Kind and 1982's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
The Wake Up Dead Man actor also recalled how Spielberg inadvertently gave him great advice when he was struggling to prepare for an emotional scene. After their discussion about the upcoming scene, Spielberg sent him a text that read: "The door is on the latch, just push."
"It made so much sense. I was like, 'Of course,' The character's kind of got all this emotion, it's built up and it's like a door on the latch and you just push and it all comes out and it's an emotional release," O'Connor remembered.
"I was so thrilled with that note and I came in the next day and said, 'Steven, you totally unlocked it for me that was amazing.' And he was like, 'What are you talking about?' I said, 'The text about "the door on the latch just push" it's incredible.' And he laughed and said that that text was supposed to be for his wife."
The star quipped, "It became a very big joke for all of us. But it did unlock the scene for me, so, fair play."
Disclosure Day, also starring Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo and Colin Firth, comes to cinemas on 12 June.
