Joe Jonas has recalled hearing his competitors perform as "clear as day" while waiting to audition for Wicked.
The Jonas Brothers singer and his brother Nick Jonas both auditioned for the role of Fiyero in the 2024 movie musical, but they were beaten to the part by Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey.
Sharing audition stories on their Hey Jonas! podcast, Joe revealed that he could hear talented musical theatre stars auditioning before his time in the room.
"I think also Wicked was a bit of a strange one, because there was, like, incredible theatre vocalists I could hear clear as day," he recalled, before joking, "I feel like with the advances in technology, nobody should be waiting for anything. It should just be like, all right, you're up at this time, 3:58, show up, we'll walk you right in the door.'"
Nick previously spoke to Variety in 2023 about his Wicked audition, saying he felt "very happy" coming out of the room because he thought it "went really well".
Elsewhere in the podcast, the Power Ballad star admitted that he once had a meeting for "a big movie" with a director and producer and foolishly asked him who was directing the film.
"I wanted to die inside at that moment. I did die inside," Nick recounted, declining to reveal the name of the film. "One of our very good friends happened to be in the movie in the end. I called him after the meeting and I said, 'Hey, I think I screwed up, I asked the director who's directing that (laughs).' He said, 'Yeah, that's tough, man.'"
Joe also divulged that he had a callback to play a young anchor on The Morning Show TV series and was placed in a private room so he wouldn't be spotted by other auditionees. However, he could hear everything that his competitors were doing in the audition room.
"This is the saddest room you can imagine... I could hear clear as day all the guys auditioning, and they were like, we just have two guys before you and these guys were crushing it," he remembered. "I'm literally sitting in silence reading the lines and I go in and I just crash and burn."
