Jodie Comer wanted The Death of Robin Hood after five minutes with director

Jodie Comer declared "within five minutes" of her meeting with The Death of Robin Hood director Michael Sarnoski that she wanted to do the film.

In Michael Sarnoski's brooding, subversive take on the legendary hero, the Killing Eve actress plays Sister Brigid, a prioress who nurses a gravely injured Robin Hood back to health at her secluded nunnery.

Sarnoski and Comer met at an Irish pub in New York to discuss the project, and she revealed within five minutes that she had already decided to do it.

"She read (the script) in like two days and we were meeting within like a week," the director recalled in an interview with Cover Media. "You sit down (for a meeting) and there's always this like, 'Who's interested? What's happening here? Am I trying to sell her on this?' And then within five minutes she was like, 'You know I'm doing this movie. This isn't like you trying to convince me to do the movie, like, I want to do this.' I was like, 'Okay, great, now we can just talk about the script.'"

Sarnoski noted that he had a general meeting with the British actress after his acclaimed feature directorial debut, Pig, was released in 2021, and they have been trying to work together since.

"After Pig, we had a general (meeting) and, you know, we said, like, 'Oh, we should do something someday,'" he shared. "We both wanted to work together, but sometimes you don't find the right project. I think this character and this script just like really clicked for her, and it just seemed like another no-brainer."

He added that Comer "really responded" to her character and the dialogue and "got really into researching healing and medieval thinking".

Hugh Jackman stars as the title character, who has been reimagined as a brutal savage, alongside Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe.

The Death of Robin Hood is in cinemas now.
