Our very own Jay Reeve takes out the Aotearoa Stone Skimming Champs

A man in a suit, tie, sunglasses, and khaki pants stands triumphantly with arms raised on a calm lake at sunset, mountains in the background; a circular inset shows him mid-action on a boat.

You actually wouldn’t read about it (well, you're about to, but still...)

Our very own Jay Reeve, co-host of The Rock Drive, has somehow gone and bloody won the Aotearoa Stone Skimming Championship over the weekend.

The madness unfolded down at Lake Hawea, where more than 130 competitors turned up to throw some rocks.

Jay was a part of the commentary team, but in classic Jay Reeve fashion, he got amongst it and somehow managed to take out the whole damn thing.

He hurled a massive 51-metre throw in the final to secure the top spot.

This type of thing would ONLY happen to Jay Reeve.

As soon as the winning rock settled, Jay let rip over the microphone: “YOU LITTLE BEAUTY!”

“Would never have picked that in a million years,” he added later.

The massive win means Jay has now qualified for the World Stone Skimming Championships in Scotland.

Shout out to Abby as well, who absolutely smashed it with the longest throw of the day, 72 metres, and took out the female competition. She will be alongside Jay on the trip to Scotland.

Word is that Jay and Brad the Boss have to tee up a meeting about the ‘upcoming international leave’, but surely there’s a clause in his contract about being a high-performance national athlete… right?

As Jay puts it, he’s stoked to “wear the Silver Fern on the tit” and represent our little country at the World Champs in September.

Congrats Jay, you psycho.
