Scam calls have sadly become a more common occurrence around New Zealand. And today, Jay-Jay got caught up in a phone call scam, where they attempted to get into Jay-Jay's computer, and give up her personal banking details.
In the scam Jay-Jay got caught up in, an Australian number pretending to be from a "Credit Card Fraud company" told Jay-Jay that they had noticed two suspicious transactions on her credit card. Wanting Jay-Jay to reveal more details, they asked her to "confirm" which bank she was with. They then told her they would forward her call on to the BNZ fraud team, and put her call to a new person.
During the 10-minute phone call with the scammer, Jay-Jay then tries to see how much the scam caller knows about her, and if there are any details she can catch out from BNZ worker "Damon Geldi".
In our Jay-Jay & Flynny podcast special, we chat with the Head Of Financial Crime At BNZ, Ashley Kai-Fong, and get his analysis on Jay-Jay's scam phone call.
