Jason Momoa is no stranger to Auckland, but now he’s left his mark on the city for fans to enjoy ahead of his new film 'Supergirl'.

On Friday, the actor stopped by Ponsonby to sign a giant mural of himself as the bounty hunter Lobo and lead actress Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.

Located on Rose Road, the 'Supergirl' mural was created by Kiwi artist Matt Griffin.

Griffin is the same artist who, just last year, created a massive Metallica mural inside Eden Park ahead of the band’s New Zealand show.

He's a self-taught realism artist, who went from structural engineering to hyperrealism art. His work has already blown up across galleries in Devonport and Parnell, and now he’s worked with DC Universe.

While Momoa is no stranger to the DC Universe, having played Aquaman, he is making his debut as fan-favourite DC antihero Lobo in the upcoming film.

Last week, Momoa told Extra that playing the character has been his childhood dream.

“This is my childhood dream. I would never ever dream that I would play this character, but if you could, you’re like, ‘Oh my God, I’m the guy. I want to go up against everyone. I’ll take on anyone to get this role.’”

And gosh, he looks good in the role.

The mural is quickly becoming a popular photo spot, and fans keen to check it out for themselves can find it at 5 Rose Road until July 4.

'Supergirl' is set to hit NZ cinemas from June 25.
