Jake Paul has copped plenty of heat over the years, but this one’s a bit different. Following his brutal loss to Anthony Joshua, Paul’s camp is now threatening legal action over claims the fight was scripted.
Joshua beat Paul in six rounds, leaving the former YouTuber with a broken jaw in two places, knocking him down four times during the fight. At the time of stoppage, all tallies read 50-43 to Joshua, and Paul had not been given a single round.
The drama kicked off afterwards, with rumours circulating like crazy that the fight was scripted.
Plenty of fans claimed there was some sort of agreement in place for Joshua not to knock Paul out.
One particularly viral post even suggested Paul sticking his tongue out mid-fight was a secret signal telling Joshua to end it. Yep, that’s where we’re at.
Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, wasn’t having it.
“Our lawyers are actively going after a number of people. One who claims to be a lawyer himself online,” Bidarian said.
“I don't remember the name or the handle, but it was something that had like 200,000 likes. And basically, this post said there was an agreement for AJ not to knock out Jake, but AJ disregarded the agreement and decided to not get his payday, but knock out Jake Paul.”
Bidarian made it clear the rumours are complete rubbish.
“There has never once in Jake Paul's career been any talk of that sort of anything to do with the fight being anything but a real fight that has exactly the same situation as any professional fight.”
So yeah, Paul lost. Badly. But his team reckons that doesn’t give the internet a free pass to make stuff up.
And honestly, after that knockout, scripting it would’ve been a bold creative choice.
