Former Lostprophets singer and convicted sex offender Ian Watkins has died after being attacked in prison by another inmate.

Watkins was serving a 29-year sentence at Wakefield Prison in West Yorkshire, England, for a string of horrific child sex offences.

Back in 2013, Watkins pleaded guilty to a total of 13 charges, including attempted sexual assault of a baby.

The prison is well known as ‘Monster Mansion’ due to the large number of high-risk inmates held there.

The judge at the time said the case “plunged into new depths of depravity”, and the disgraced singer showed “complete lack of remorse,” according to the BBC

Last year, Watkins’ former bandmate Lee Gaze confirmed the singer was no longer getting royalties from their music.

On Saturday (Oct 11), Watkins was attacked “in the most brutal way possible,” a source told The Sun, adding, “the attack was shocking, even by prison standards.”

Watkins was reportedly slashed in the jugular by a fellow inmate, which caused him to die from blood loss.

“Guards were nearby and raced to the scene pretty quickly, but there was nothing they could do, and they could not save him,” the source added.

It’s not the first time Watkins faced violence behind bars. Just last year, he was beaten, stabbed and held hostage by fellow inmates, leaving him in what was described as a ‘life-threatening’ condition.
