After a six-week long trial, the jury in the Johnny Depp V Amber Heard trial finally annouced their verdict this morning.
Depp is sueing Heard for $50 million USD for defamation after her 2018 op-ed, which described herself as "a public figure representing domestic abuse". Even though Depp was not named in the article, he is claiming it has cost him his career and potential roles.
Jury's verdict: Jury awards $15 million in damages to Johnny Depp with the actor winning both counts in defamation.
$5 million of those damages will be reduced to the Virginia maximum for puinitive damages of $350,000. Meaning Johnny will receive $10,350,000 in total.
Heard filed a counterclaim for $100 million USD after Depp's lawyers said her allegations were a hoax.
Jury's verdict: Amber heard wins Count. 2 in her counter-claim however loses Count. 1 and Count. 3 in counter-claim. Jury awards $2 million in damages to the actress.
