It's no longer a secret how much British actor Hugh Grant hated his iconic 'Love Actually' dance sequence. But he didn't realise the cultural impact his little boogie to Girls Aloud's 'Jump' would still do 20 years after the film's release, including a viral dance from one of our own Kiwi boxers, Joseph Parker.
In a recent interview with ABC News celebrating the film's anniversary, the actor was shown a collection of 'Love Actually' dance recreations, making particular comments over Joseph's reenactment (at the 5.25 minute mark in the video below.)
"See, he's in rhythm!" Hugh Grant points out, crediting Joseph's ability to dance better than Hugh's own.
"He's much better. Better dancer, better hips."
Joseph Parker filmed his version of the Love Actually dance in March 2020, while the world stopped in lockdown. With no upcoming fights at the time, Joseph had mixed up his training to perfect his 10 Downing Street dance scene. The Kiwi heavyweight even gets caught out abruptly by his wife and daughters.
While Hugh may not be a fan of the dance in general, he does take some credit for a key part of it, jokingly hailing himself as a "genius".
"But I will give myself this credit. it was my idea to have that secretary lady catch me. Genius."
