Many people (myself included) are absolutely Matcha MAD right now.

It's packed with antioxidants, gives a slow release of caffeine, and has a rep as a healthier alternative to coffee - what’s not to love?

But there’s a viral spin on the classic taking our FYPs by storm, and us matcha fiends have been frothing - literally - to get a taste.

The ‘Iced Strawberry Matcha’ is just as gorgeous as it sounds. With its ombre pink and green aesthetic, it’s basically made for the ‘gram, perfect for a Sunday brunch Insta story.

As soon as I saw it on my feed, I knew I had to try a homemade version so I could sip on this beauty every single weekend without breaking the bank.

Like any good matcha, the secret is in the powder you choose. You need a top-quality one to ensure a smooth delicate flavour.

Kiwi-owned small business, Thea Matcha, hooked me up with their organic Matcha powder, and let me tell you, it has been ticking ALL the boxes.

This family-run small business (LOVE this) has a few different matcha powders available, perfect for your own at-home matcha.

So, I put their powder to the test to see just how it would vibe with this latest fruity trend. Spoiler alert: it’s DELISH.

How to make viral iced Strawberry Matcha at home:

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup - frozen strawberries

  • 1 cup - your choice of milk

  • ½ a teaspoon of Thea Matcha (or similar)

  • Ice

Method:

  • Add strawberries to a microwave-safe bowl

  • Microwave for 1 minute

  • Add your matcha to a small bowl, then splash - about X tablespoons - with warm water and whisk till the mixture becomes frothed

  • Pour microwaved strawberries into your serving glass

  • Add ice

  • Pour over your choice of milk

  • Add the matcha mixture over the top, stir, and enjoy!

The fruitiness of the strawberry mixed with the earthy taste was a match-a made in heaven. If you like a pulpy base, this one is for you. Little chunks of strawberry is what makes this matcha - the best alternative to any artificial sweetener! Don’t forget to give it a good mix with your straw.

Now go get sippin’, it’s too good to be sticking around here for.
