Hollie Davidson is about to make some serious history - she’s set to become the first woman ever to referee an All Blacks test.
The Scottish ref will be on the whistle when the All Blacks face Wales in Cardiff on November 23 (NZST), a huge moment for her and for rugby as a whole.
Though she’s no stranger to the field.
This year, Davidson refereed the Women’s Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham, where England beat Canada - her second World Cup final, putting her alongside South Africa’s Andre Watson as the only refs to officiate world titles twice.
Named World Rugby Referee of the Year, she’s already “made a significant contribution to the game of rugby," according to World Rugby.
World Rugby Chair Brett Robinson said earlier this year: “Hollie has been a true trailblazer, consistently breaking new ground and shattering glass ceilings for women in refereeing. Her remarkable achievements on the biggest stages have set new standards and opened doors for others to follow.”
We are in awe of what she has accomplished so far and deeply grateful for the inspiration she continues to provide for the next generation of match officials and players alike.
More than a quarter of her 46 matches in the middle have come in the men’s test arena.
Davidson also became the first woman to officiate a Springbok Test last year against Portugal, and returned to ref the World Champs' match against Italy back in July.
World Rugby announced the two other officials for the upcoming All Blacks 2025 Grand Slam campaign next month.
Frenchman Pierre Brousset will oversee their match against Ireland in Chicago on November 2, Aussie's Nic Berry will be on the field for the Scotland match at Murrayfield on November 9, and Italian Andrea Piardi is refereeing their game against England on November 16.
It is 100 years since the All Blacks’ first Grand Slam attempt. The team have since achieved a Grand Slam four times - in 1978, 2005, 2008, and 2010.
