HBO Max streaming is coming to New Zealand - here's everything we know

A composite promotional image with dramatic lighting depicts Pedro Pascal seated in the left foreground wearing a brown canvas jacket and watch, Zendaya with an intense expression in the dark middle background, and an unknown man on the right foreground wearing a greenish-grey cloak, holding a small metallic object, all with serious or concerned expressions.

New Zealand's streaming game is changing BIG TIME. Warner Bros. Discovery is bringing HBO Max to Aotearoa!

After smashing it in Australia last year, and heading Germany, Italy, the UK and Ireland's way, Kiwis will get their turn to stream from mid-2026.

If you’re struggling to think of any HBO shows, let me jog your brain with some of the favourites across the board. The latest addition is the ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’, ‘The Last of Us’, ‘House of the Dragon’, ‘The White Lotus’, ‘Euphoria’, ‘Succession’... the list goes on.

Max Originals including 'The Pitt', 'And Just Like That…', plus the new 'Harry Potter' series and everything from the DC Universe will also be included.

HBO Max content is currently on Neon and Sky Entertainment, but once the platform lands in NZ, it’ll all move over.

The platform will also be the place to watch Warner Bros. blockbusters, including Oscar nominees ‘One Battle After Another’ and ‘Sinners’.

It might cost a bit more to add another subscription to your line up, but if HBO shows are your vibe, the binge sesh might just be worth it. At least that's what I'm trying to convince my wallet of in the meantime.

I'm just praying that we don't have another one household per subscription situation on our hands, because I don't know how many more services I can fork out for.

Pricing and subscription details are still yet to come, but as soon as they do, we'll be sure to share all the latest.
